Job description

 

Boğaziçi University Department of Sociology now invites applications for a full-time position (assistant professor) to begin in Fall 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.

 

We seek a scholar who demonstrates a strong theoretical orientation and whose research interests lie in one of the following fields: Sociology of Religion and Secularisms; New Media and Digital Cultures; Science, Technologies and Materialities; or Critical Global Studies.

 

We expect the successful candidate todemonstrate a strong record of research at an international level along with an exciting vision and agenda for future research and a commitment to providing outstanding teaching to high-achieving graduate and undergraduate students who compete for top graduate programs in social sciences around the world.

 

The normal teaching load is two courses per semester with optional summer teaching. Applicants must have a PhD in hand at or very close to its completion at the time of the application.

 

The closing date for applications is Tuesday, May 15th 2018 and interviews are planned to begin within a month after the application deadline.

Boğaziçi University is the premier higher education institution of Turkey. Established in 1863 as an American college and nationalized in 1971, it maintains English as the language of instruction. It is a research university committed to the liberal arts tradition at undergraduate level.

 

The Department of Sociology is a pioneering center of attraction on national and international levels, placing equal emphasis on teaching and original research. Regions of research include Turkey, Europe, the Middle East, the United States, and Central Asia. While the primary disciplinary foci of the department are sociology and anthropology, the interests of the faculty are often interdisciplinary.

 

The Department is committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching. It is also well known for its strong Master’s Program, which emphasizes empirical research and fieldwork in addition to intensive theoretical training and prepares successful candidates for the premier PhD programs around the world.
